Round 6, Pick 198: Cody Thompson, WR, Toledo

While the Jets signed two wide receivers in free agency, Robbie Anderson has still yet to receive an offer for New York to contemplate matching, and the previously mentioned Crowder has a history of injury. Adding another weapon to the mix for Darnold to throw to and add depth in case of an exiting deep threat or injury at the position would be a wise move for the Jets.

Cody Thompson out of Toledo is not a flashy pick by any means, but his film shows a consistent target with great hands across the middle that would be a great security blanket for Darnold. Cut from the same mold as Cooper Kupp, Thompson measured in at over 6-1 and 205 pounds. While his 40-yard dash was nothing to write home about at a 4.57 seconds, he displayed that he has the quick twitch necessary to separate underneath and get open.

Thompson ranked in the top 90th percentile in the 20-yard shuttle, displaying an ability to get in an out of breaks quickly and efficiently. He also hit over 38 inches in the vertical jump as well, good enough for him to sit in the top 84 percent of the class.

Thompson does not have the speed necessary to separate down the field, but has all of the makings of a potential sleeper and a quality slot receiver at the next level. The Jets use a sixth rounder to land to MAC product here.
