Round 3, Pick 75: Amani Hooker, S, Iowa

The Packers filled one of their empty voids at safety with the signing of Adrian Amos. With the 75th overall selection, Green Bay takes Iowa’s Amani Hooker to pair with him. With questions about his athletic ability, Hooker showed up in a big way at the Combine. He posted a 4.48-second 40-yard dash, 37-inch vertical and 6.81-second 3-Cone time at 5-11 and 210 pounds. All were among the best at his position.

Hooker’s measureables bode well for his projection as a hybrid safety. Many have compared Hooker to another former Hawkeye, Desmond King. King was named a All-Pro last season, namely for his work in guarding the slot. Hooker figures to play a similar role in the NFL — the only caveat being that he’s more athletic.

"“Hybrid safety with an advanced feel for play design and recognition of where the ball is going and how to play it. He could thrive in a “robber” role or as a big nickel where he can match up against pass-catching tight ends.” – NFL.com’s Lance Zierlein"

The Packers could utilize Hooker similarly to how they used Micah Hyde (coincidentally, another former Hawkeye) during his time with the team. Hooker is a do-it-all safety who would unquestionably be welcomed by defensive coordinator Mike Pettine.
