It’s been an extremely busy offseason for general manager Dave Gettleman and the New York Giants. Is the team done spending a little money?
The New York Giants are one of the oldest franchises in the NFL. They are the owner of eight league titles, four of those during the pre-Super Bowl Era to go along with four Lombardi Trophies. It’s a team that has had its share of legendary players and memorable moments. But it’s safe to say that you would be hard-pressed to find a time in which Big Blue has spent more under the microscope then it has this offseason to date.
In 2016, the team ended a four-year postseason drought by finishing 11-5 and getting into the playoffs as a wild card. Since then, the Giants have won a total of eight games. This past season, head coach Pat Shurmur led the club to a 4-4 record after a 1-7 start. But the team did end the year on a three-game losing streak.
Now, thanks to a series of trades that it brought in some help on both the offensive line and in the secondary, as well as the fact that the club now has 12 selections in this April’s draft, the reshaping of the New York Giants continues.
General manager Dave Gettleman has made some interesting moves in his year-plus at the helm, including the decision to deal wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. to the Cleveland Browns.
Hence the renovations continue. There’s still plenty of work to be done when it comes to a team that has finished dead last in the NFC East two straight years. And when it comes to adding a few more veterans, here are three suggestions — that could be had for a reasonable price — that could help Big Blue in a big way.
