After the initial free agency frenzy, we have a better idea of the Chicago Bears’ needs. Here is our latest mock draft looking at those needs.

So we just went through the free agency frenzy that comes with the beginning of the new NFL year. The Chicago Bears were a part of that frenzy, making a few signings and filling some needs. They surprised many by not keeping some of their own players and opened eyes with other signings that signaled other moves.

The Bears signed running back Mike Davis, cornerback Buster Skrine, safety Ha Ha Clinton-Dix, wide receivers Cordarrelle Patterson and Marvin Hall Jr. and offensive lineman Ted Larsen. Interestingly, while many wondered if the Bears would sign one or both of their two key pending free agents, cornerback Bryce Callahan and safety Adrian Amos, the team decided to sign neither. Instead, they kept quarterback Tyler Bray and punter Pat O’Donnell.

The signing of a running back gives credence to rumors that Jordan Howard may have played his final game as a Chicago Bear. He doesn’t seem to be a fit in head coach Matt Nagy’s offensive system. Davis, a pretty good pass catcher out of the backfield, is a better fit. The only problem is that while he played well in a reserve role, is he coming to Chicago as a starter or will he split time with a draft pick?

If the Bears do trade Howard, that means they pick up an extra pick or two. Since it’s still just speculation, we cannot realistically mock that. A mock draft is something that is a snapshot and this is the snapshot now.

Another interesting fact that I think will make an impact on the draft (again speculation) is that pick in the third round. In his four drafts in Chicago, general manager Ryan Pace made just two picks in the third round. Neither of those picks really impressed. One was in 2015 when he picked offensive lineman Hroniss Grasu. The other came a year later when he picked up Jonathan Bullard. I expect Pace to package that pick in a deal somehow.

Here now, is our latest mock draft with the picks they currently have.
