Nate Davis could be a steal in this year’s draft. He has the tools to be a starter in the NFL. He had academic problems when he started college and later had a suspension for an undisclosed infraction so those incidents may keep many teams away. If he convinces Pace that he’s over all that, the Bears could have themselves an effective lineman and one who could challenge for a starting job down the road.

Davis has a thick body with good power. He has the punch to knock rushers off balance and stun them, something that helps him tremendously on run blocking. HIs excellent footwork is clear, but sometimes he has trouble setting up correctly. Even so, he usually has good balance. He gets out on pulls quickly and smoothly. He’s played both tackles and guard and has 45 starts so he has the experience to provide depth.

The Chicago Bears don’t need a starter at the moment. They just need depth. Davis can provide that. He will be able to spell the starters and give them enough snaps so they could be well rested and strong not only down the stretch of a game but also down the stretch of the season.
