Dallas Cowboys: Top 3-technique tackles to target in 2019 NFL Draft
By Randy Gurzi
The final option is Zach Allen, who doesn’t have any questions about his availability heading into the 2019 NFL season. He also has no red flags to worry about. In fact, the only real question is whether or not Allen will still be on the board when the Cowboys are on the clock. If he is, they need to seriously consider making him their selection.
Allen fits in Dallas for several reasons. One is his positional flex, which is something this staff values to a fault. They love players who can line up in multiple spots and that’s what Allen can do. He’s been a defensive end and tackle for Boston College and has the build to continue that as a pro.
Another thing this staff will love is Allen’s incredible effort. He’s one of those guys that has a non-stop motor which gives blockers fits as they try to slow him down all game.
The 6-4, 280-pound Allen also has a nose for the ball carrier. While Harold Landry got all the praise as an edge rusher in 2017, Allen was lined up on the other side making just as many plays. He finished that year with 100 tackles and four sacks. He then returned for his senior campaign and added another 61 tackles and 6.5 sacks.
In any other draft, Allen would be long gone by the 58th pick. However, the depth along the defensive line in this class could give the Boys a gift as Allen has a chance to slide to them. If he does, he would be a very smart pick.
