Round 2: Clelin Ferrell, EDGE, Clemson

Although the Redbirds passed on Nick Bosa, they grab an edge pass rusher in the second round. Clelin Ferrell out of Clemson is their choice. Ferrell is a relentless pass rusher. At Clemson, Ferrell recorded 27 sacks through three seasons. He had 166 total tackles with 50.5 of them, being for losses. He should adapt well to the Cardinals 3-4 defense.

Ferrell comes into the pro football ranks at 6-4, 264 pounds. He could move into an outside linebacker spot as well as playing on the line. Lance Zierlein of NFL.com gives an overview of Ferrell:

"..His rush can be leggy and gradual and might not get home as often in the pros, but NFL coaching might further unleash his physical traits and turn him into a star…"

Injuries decimated the Cardinals defense last season. Chandler Jones will be back to create havoc on opposing quarterbacks. Veteran pass rusher and former Ravens star Terrell Suggs signed as a free agent to add to the pass rush and run stopper. That is good news for Ferrell.

Time is on the side of Ferrell. He will be able to learn from solid professionals which will play huge dividends. There will be no rush to throw Ferrell out on the field before he is acclimated to the professional game speed.
