With the 2019 NFL Draft vastly approaching, the Oakland Raiders have not been quiet about interest in quarterbacks; Derek Carr is not in their plans.

Derek Carr will not be making the trip to Las Vegas whenever the current Oakland Raiders make their move in the next couple of years. Head coach Jon Gruden has been extremely non-commital to this point, and this year’s pre-draft process has done nothing but add fuel to the fire in within the Raiders’ organization.

Multiple reports have come out that the Raiders have interest in potential No. 1 overall pick Kyler Murray, including from NFL insider Benjamin Allbright. With less than a month to go until the 2019 NFL Draft, it is only a matter of time until we see what the plan is in Oakland.

It has been reported this week that the Raiders will bring both Murray and fellow first round quarterback Dwayne Haskins in for a pre-draft visit and workout, further adding doubt to the future of Carr in Oakland. With three first round selections in this year’s draft, the Raiders can put themselves in position to grab whomever they want.

Carr is a three-time Pro Bowler, and in 2018 threw for over 4,000 yards but just 19 touchdowns. Last year he ranked near the bottom in the league of yards per completion with 7.3 yards per attempt, and dead last in completions over 10 yards.

With the additions of Antonio Brown, Trent Brown, and Tyrell Williams, it seems like the Raiders believe that they can compete in 2019. If this is the case, then sticking with Carr would be the logical solution. However, re-signing Khalil Mack also would have been a logical move to make as well and instead the Raiders shipped out a generational talent instead of paying him.

After shipping out two veterans next year, could Carr be the next one to get the boot out of Oakland? If he is traded prior to June 1, then the Raiders will be forced to eat $7.5 million in dead cap, $2.5 million after June 1. Regardless of if Carr is the quarterback of the Raiders in 2019, he will not make the trip to Vegas whenever the team parts with the city of Oakland.
