There’s little doubt that Minnesota Vikings’ running back Dalvin Cook is a very talented performer. And four games into his debut season in 2017, it was the former Florida State standout who appeared to be the very early favorite for NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year honors.

But in that fourth outing, Cook went down for the season. This past year, he did return and would lead the club with 615 yards on the ground (two touchdowns) while finishing as the team’s fourth-leading receiver with 40 catches, good for 305 yards and two scores.

However, it was Latavius Murray who finished with more rushing attempts than Cook. The one-time member of the Oakland Raiders finished with 578 rushing yards and six scores. But he’s now with the New Orleans Saints after signing a free-agent deal.

Earlier this month (via ESPN’s Adam Schefter), former Kansas City Chiefs’ running back Spencer Ware visited the Detroit Lions. Keep in mind that Cook missed five games in 2018. The Vikings recently re-signed one-time Lions’ running back Ameer Abdullah, who was basically a non-factor with the club this past season. Finding some depth at running back, be it free agency or the draft, has to be on Minnesota’s to-do list.
