Dallas Cowboys: 7-Round 2019 NFL mock draft for early April
By Randy Gurzi
Round 5, Pick 165: Carl Granderson, EDGE, Wyoming
One thing that could change the Cowboys entire draft strategy would be if they were unable to retain defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence. Right now, his rights still technically belong to the team thanks to the franchise tag, but Lawrence is unhappy about that and is refusing to sign that contract. This could lead to him holding out and could get ugly real fast.

The recent addition of Robert Quinn could help should the team be without Lawrence, but he’s not going to completely replace D-Law, who has become one of the more consistent edge players in the game. With all that being said, the Boys could go for a defensive end much earlier if they feel like No. 90 won’t be on the roster.
For the purposes of this mock, Lawrence is part of the roster so they wait until Round 5 to add some depth with Carl Granderson. The Wyoming Cowboy had 78 tackles and 8.5 sacks in 2017 but then saw his number drop in his senior campaign as he finished with just 40 tackles and three sacks.
Granderson still has enough to like about his game to give him a shot here. He has great size and length and is a good hand fighter. With a little coaching, and some patience, he could wind up being an option as a rotational pass rusher.
