Round 7, Pick: 241: Alexander Mattison, RB, Boise State

With their final pick in this 2019 NFL Mock Draft, the Dallas Cowboys add a player from one of their favorite schools — Boise State. Currently, the Cowboys have Tyrone Crawford, DeMarcus Lawrence, George Iloka, Darian Thompson, Cedrick Wilson, and 2018 first-round pick Leighton Vander Esch on the roster from Boise State. They also had Orlando Scandrick for years after taking him in the fifth round back in 2008.

Head coach Jason Garrett has said in the past they’re comfortable with that program and how they do things, which is evident by the way they are attracted to players who hail from the blue turf.

As for Mattison, the 221-pound running back had more than 1,000-yards in each of the past two seasons for the Broncos. His best year came in 2018 when he amassed 1,415 yards on the ground with 17 touchdowns. Mattison has also been a factor as a receiver, going for 511 yards on 60 receptions in his career.

With Dallas, Mattison would serve as a backup to Ezekiel Elliott, the NFL rushing leader in 2016 and 2018. Zeke is a workhorse and rarely leaves the field but considering he was visibly limping at times this past season, having someone with fresh legs who can help take some of the hits isn’t a bad idea at all.
