14. Atlanta Falcons: Ed Oliver, DT, Houston
At one point, Ed Oliver felt like a potential No. 1 overall pick. Then other names started to skip over him — the most prominent being Quinnen Williams out of Alabama who has solidified himself as the No. 1 defensive tackle prospect. Oliver still has the talent to go top 10, but slides a bit in this mock but that’s perfectly fine by the Atlanta Falcons who decide to snatch him up and pair Oliver with Grady Jarrett.
Those two together can cause serious problems while also fixing the Falcons pass rush woes. Oliver may be slightly undersized and plays inside, but he’s a force to deal with and is excellent at generating pressure up the middle.
"“Oliver has the first-step quickness, instincts, athleticism and motor to emerge as a havoc-wreaking three-technique in a fast-flowing 4-3 alignment. While he lacks size, he makes up for it with the leverage and play strength needed to succeed against NFL interior offensive linemen.” — Gavino Borquez, Draft Wire, USA Today"
On top of him having that relentless motor and insane burst off the snap, Oliver will have a massive chip on his shoulder should he slide in the draft. He will join the Falcons ready to prove that falling out of the top 10 was a mistake by every team that could have drafted him.
