2019 NFL Draft: Complete 7-round mock draft
By Randy Gurzi
5. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Jawaan Taylor, OT, Florida
There’s a new head coach in town for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as they’ve moved on from Dirk Koetter in favor of Bruce Arians, formerly of the Arizona Cardinals. Before his successful run with the Cards, Arians actually won the NFL Head Coach of the Year award with the Indianapolis while filling in for Chuck Pagano who was battling cancer.
During his time calling the shots with Indy and Arizona, one thing was certain — Arians could win as long as he had a quarterback capable of orchestrating his offense. That’s where the questions come up for the Bucs as there are plenty of reasons to ask whether or not Jameis Winston is the guy that will lead Tampa Bay out of the NFC South cellar.
So far, the head coach appears content with Winston, but with Dwayne Haskins on the board, it’s got to be tempting to pull the trigger. In the end, Arians and the front office decide to see what the veteran coach can do with the former No. 1 pick. With them sticking with Winston, the choice here becomes Jawaan Taylor, the Florida right tackle who is arguably the best offensive lineman in the class.
Taylor isn’t getting the love he deserves due to playing on the right side but he’s going to come in right away and lock his position down. This could be one of the most sure-fire picks in the opening round.
