2019 NFL Draft: Complete 7-round mock draft
By Randy Gurzi
8. Detroit Lions: Devin White, LB, LSU
At No. 8 overall, there are a couple of ways the Detroit Lions could go. One is to add a wide receiver to replace Golden Tate — who was traded to the Philadelphia Eagles at the deadline and then signed with the New York Giants in free agency. Another route would be to go after a tight end to replace Eric Ebron, who was released ahead of last season.
They could also go for a defensive end, considering they won’t have Ezekiel Ansah in 2019. All those options are real possibilities, but they go another route in this mock as they take Devin White out of LSU. While linebacker may not feel like the biggest need in Detroit, head coach Matt Patricia is a former defensive coordinator and takes a player who can transform his defense.
White is an incredible athlete and is far and away the best linebacker prospect in the 2019 class. He had 256 tackles, 25.5 of which went for a loss, and 7.5 sacks in the past two seasons for LSU. He’s a heat-seeking missile and posted a 4.42 in the 40-yard dash while also scoring a 22 in the bench rep. White will be a game changer in the NFL and the Lions will be happy to have him on board, even if they have to wait to address their other pressing needs.
