Most of the cornerbacks

There is no clear-cut top cornerback in this class. Denzel Ward was selected with the fourth overall pick last year, but no cornerback will be going in the top ten selections this year. No corner has earned that honor this year.

In his latest mock draft, NFL Network’s Bucky Brooks has the first cornerback coming off the board at 20th overall, one spot above Seattle. That’s a realistic spot for the corners to start coming off of the board, which puts the Seahawks right in the perfect position to take one.

The Seahawks are in an interesting situation with their current cornerbacks. Shaquill Griffin and Tre Flowers are both decent corners who are worthy of being starters, but neither of them are budding superstars. Drafting another cornerback might seem like overkill, but teams really need to have that lockdown corner in the modern NFL. I don’t think the Seahawks will pick a corner, but the option will be there.

The best cornerbacks in this year’s draft are Deandre Baker, Byron Murphy, Greedy Williams and Rock Ya-Sin. All four of them will probably go in the back end of the first round. Out of the four, Murphy and Williams stand out the most as potential immediate starters. All of them might still be on the board when it’s Seattle’s turn to pick.

The Seahawks could also address the safety position in the early rounds of the draft, but there’s no clear safety worth a first round pick this year. A couple of safeties will certainly be drafted in the second round, but it would be a stretch to take one with the 21st overall pick. Not that the Seahawks are strangers to reaching in the first round.
