The Indianapolis Colts will be looking to build on their success from last season, and they need to nail the start of the draft to do that.

The Indianapolis Colts were one of the biggest surprises in the NFL for the 2018 season. Andrew Luck finally being healthy was a major key for that success, but nailing back-to-back drafts and free agent classes had a huge impact on that as well.

Chris Ballard isn’t the flashiest general manager when it comes to making personnel decisions, as evidenced by his having the most cap space this offseason, yet spending nearly none of that.

When the 2019 NFL Draft rolls around at the end of April, Ballard will be tasked with elevating the team from their AFC Divisional Round berth that they earned last season to the next level of competitiveness.

He’ll be looking for another slam dunk pick, but those are a little harder to find at the end of rounds where he’ll be picking. But there are still plenty of players in this draft that can help the team in year one. Ballard just has to get them.

Using a mock draft simulator from The Draft Network, I conducted my own three-round mock draft, and I’ll likely be completing a full mock later as we get close to draft time. However, it’s the beginning of the draft where the picks are so critical. If you miss at the beginning, it’s unlikely that the day three picks are going to make up for it.

I put my general manager hat on to try and start the Colts draft off strong.
