San Francisco 49ers: 7-Round 2019 mock draft with 20 days to go

Round 3, Pick 67: Deionte Thompson, S, Alabama
Few prospects have seen their stock slip like Alabama safety Deionte Thompson. A wrist injury that resulted in surgery has caused him to miss testing at the combine, and then at Alabama’s make up pro day on Tuesday, Thompson opted not to run the 40-yard dash.
Thompson tested just okay in the vertical and broad jump, hitting 33 inches and nine feet, ten inches respectively and apparently looked “okay” during on-field drills according to NFL draft evaluator Dane Brugler. Once though of as a first rounder, Thompson may now be lucky to hear his name called before the third round.
What remains unknown is how Thompson has presented himself behind closed doors with NFL teams during private meetings, interviews, and workouts. Thompson must take advantage of these opportunities and they may be his saving grace.
The Niners stop his slide here with the 67th pick in the draft and add him to a secondary that is in need of some safety help. While Jaquiski Tartt is a solid starter, his running mate Jimme Ward can be replaced with a more talented prospect. Thompson could come in and challenge Ward for the starter at the second safety spot in the San Francisco secondary.
