Round 7, Pick 212: Cortes Broughton, DL, Cincinnati

With their last pick in the draft, the Niners take a chance on another athletic prospect and add depth to their defensive line. Cortes Broughton from the University of Cincinnati could give a breather to Armstead, Thomas, and Buckner when needed and potentially develop into a spot starter himself.

During his senior season in 2018, the 6’2 and 290 pound Broughton put up massive numbers for the Bearcats. In 13 games, Broughton tallied a massive 18.5 tackles for loss and 7.5 sacks while knocking down five passes at the line of scrimmage and forcing two fumbles. This is elite production for the Cincinnati product and it certainly turned heads of NFL teams.

In fact The Draft Network’s Benjamin Solak has Broughton listed as a top-100 player on his big board. Getting that value potentially in the seventh round would be huge for the 49ers.

The Niners could do far worse with a seventh round selection than giving a guy with great film a chance to make their team and contribute in a rotational role. Here, to round out their draft, San Francisco takes a chance on Broughton and hope that this late round flyer pays huge dividends for them in the future.
