3. Tight End

Yes, Jason Witten is back and will likely start. No, he is not the long-term answer. What he can be, however, is a great chance for some of their younger players to learn from one of the best to ever play the position. Witten may not be as athletic as he once was, but his understanding of the position is light years ahead of anyone who was on the field in 2018.

While he can definitely help Dalton Schultz and Blake Jarwin learn to be more complete players, Dallas should still keep looking for their next long-term answer. Schultz is already a decent blocker and improved as a receiver. As for Jarwin, he broke out with three touchdowns in a Week 17 win against the New York Giants but was then quiet in the playoffs and struggles with his blocking.

This isn’t to say either can’t develop into a complete player or that they should be given up on. Instead, Dallas just needs to make sure they don’t simply bank on these players getting it figured out. They need to continue to look for their next player at the spot and they should once again consider a mid-round option at tight end.
