New York Jets: 7-Round 2019 mock draft with a massive trade
By Cory Kinnan
Round 2, Pick 41 (via DEN): Erik McCoy, IOL, Texas A&M
The Jets added a second round pick via the trade with the Broncos, obtaining the 41st pick in the draft. With this pick, New York gets an upgrade to the interior of their offensive line that struggled mightily in 2019 in Erik McCoy from Texas A&M.
McCoy was relatively unknown before the combine, but now looks like a top-50 lock in the upcoming draft after he blew up the scene in Indianapolis. Measuring in at 6-3 and 303 pounds, McCoy ran a 4.89-second 40 yard dash with elite splits, benched 29 reps, and posted an elite vertical jump.
While the Jets traded for guard Kelechi Osemele from the Oakland Raiders and re-signed center Jonotthan Harrison, that does not clear them of seeking to continue to overhaul the offensive line. Harrison played well enough to earn an extension, but can be upgraded upon and the opposite guard, Brian Winters may be looking for a new job by the end of camp.
McCoy is one of the top ranked interior offensive lineman in this class, and adding him immediately makes the Jets’ offensive line better. In this simulated mock draft in which the Jets add the 41st pick in the draft, they use it to add McCoy to challenge Harrison and Winters and protect their franchise quarterback Darnold.
