New York Jets: 7-Round 2019 mock draft with a massive trade
By Cory Kinnan
Round 3, Pick 68: Mack Wilson, LB, Alabama
The Jets landed superstar linebacker C.J. Mosley in free agency, but after Anthony Barr backed out of his deal with New York, they remain in need of another linebacker. New York is reportedly shopping 2016 first rounder Darron Lee after signing Mosley, creating a hole in the middle of their defense. Here the Jets draft Alabama’s Mack Wilson to play next to Avery Williamson and Mosley.
At the combine, the Alabama linebacker did not test well in the vertical jump, hitting on 32 inches on his vertical and hit an average mark on his broad jump. Wilson did not run at the combine after aggravating a pre-existing injury, but at his pro day ran a 4.65-second 40-yard dash with a 1.61-second 10-yard split. This shows elite explosiveness, even if Wilson does not have fantastic speed.
In 2018, Wilson posted 65 tackles, 4.5 behind the line of scrimmage, and one sack. He also tallied two interceptions last season, giving him six for his career; he knocked down an additional five passes for the Crimson Tide a year ago.
While Wilson was once considered a first rounder, there remains a chance that he may slip into the early portion of the third round. If he is sitting on the board at No. 68, the Jets must pounce on him to put in the middle of their defense.
