Round 5, Pick 148 (via DEN): Bobby Evans, OT, Oklahoma

In addition to overhauling the interior of their offensive line, the Jets need some help at tackle, positions currently manned by Kelvin Beachum and Brandon Shell. Both are currently on the last year’s of their contracts. Here with the last pick that the Jets get in the trade with the Broncos in 2019, they add Bobby Evans from Oklahoma.

Evans looks to join a line of Oklahoma tackles to succeed at the next level, including Lane Johnson, Orlando Brown Jr., and teammate and first round lock Cody Ford. In fact, three of Oklahoma’s offensive lineman look to get drafted this year, including guard Dru Samia.

Measuring in at 6-4 and 312 pounds, Evans posted an average showing at the combine, leaving him as a day-three pick. He ran a 5.2-second 40-yard dash and posted only 22 reps on his bench press. These were the only tests that Evans completed in Indianapolis and he did not do any additional tests at the Sooners’ pro day.

Here in the fifth round, the Jets add Evans as a day-three flyer and hope to develop him as a starting tackle to replace either Beachum or Shell in 2020. He could also compete for a starting gig in 2019 as well, considering the New York offensive line performed poorly last season.
