Round 6, Pick 196: Kendall Sheffield, CB, Ohio State

With the 196th overall pick in the draft, the Jets use their sixth round pick on cornerback Kendall Sheffield of Ohio State. The Jets signed Trumaine Johnson one year ago, and added Brian Poole this year, filling any void that may have been left on the roster. Adding Sheffield would give New York depth in the secondary and prepare for the future.

Sheffield has had a whirlwind of a college career, transferring to the Buckeyes after one year at Alabama. He started two years at Ohio State, but struggled mightily in 2018 as most of the Buckeye defense did. Hoping to prove himself at the combine, where he was expected to explode off of the charts, Sheffield hurt his bicep during the bench press.

Hoping to see his draft stock rise, Sheffield instead has to stand pat on his film that shows a lot of flaws in his game as he did not test at Ohio State’s pro day either. However, the line of Buckeye cornerbacks over the past few years should give teams a bit of confidence in Sheffield.

Looking to follow Eli Apple, Marcus Lattimore, Gareon Conley, and Denzel Ward in the line of Ohio State corners to hear their names called, Sheffield hopes for the chance to prove himself.
