New York Jets: 7-Round 2019 mock draft with a massive trade
By Cory Kinnan
Round 7, Pick 217: Bryce Love, RB, Stanford
With the last pick in the draft, the Jets take a flyer on another player that was too injured to test at the combine in Bryce Love. In retrospect, Love probably should have entered the 2018 draft after he played his way into Heisman contention for Stanford. Instead, he stayed in school, saw his production drop, then to add insult to injury he tore his ACL more than halfway through the season.
During his Heisman campaign in 2017, Love blew up the stat sheet, tallying over 2,100 yards rushing and 19 touchdowns for the Cardinals. This season, however, he recorded only 739 yards and six scores in ten games. Returning to school hurt Love’s draft stock tremendously and now has a lot to prove. However, he must do that in individual interviews with teams since he cannot test or workout for them.
After signing Le’Veon Bell, the Jets are in no hurry to add a running back anytime soon, but with just Elijah McGuire behind him, they could look to add talent to give Bell a breather when necessary. McGuire, averaging less than four yards per carry in his career, can stand to be upgraded and Love could be the steal of the draft if he comes back to full force once healthy.
