2019 NFL Draft: April’s fools gold
By Ryan Roberts
Greg Little, OT, Ole Miss
Oh, how times have changed. It wasn’t too long ago that former Ole Miss offensive tackle Greg Little was steadily mocked as a potential top-10 selection, and a slam dunk franchise left tackle. That hype, of course, was in large due to Little’s five-star status coming out of high school, combined with his god-given size/length (6-5, 310 pounds, 35.25-inch arms).
The 2019 NFL Scouting Combine made what Little has put on film the last three seasons make even more sense. The dude is just simply not athletic enough to hold down the coveted blind side position at the next level. And while athleticism is always second fiddle to technique at the offensive line position, Little’s lack of functional lateral mobility and underwhelming balance plague him on film.
Some of these weaknesses were covered up due to Ole Miss use of heavy RPO concepts, rarely ever asking their offensive line to take traditional pass sets. Now the hiding is over for Little — his draft stock is cooked.
Some evaluators are sure to hold out that the once heralded prospect still has the perceived upside that was once in play, or so we thought. But this may just be a call to reality of what Little really is: a developmental offensive linemen who should not see any significant minutes in the near future.
