4. Houston Texans

The original NFL team in the city of Houston is now in Nashville, playing as the Tennessee Titans. From 1960-96, they were known as the Houston Oilers and when they left, the NFL knew there needed to be a franchise in the city again soon. That led to the expansion Houston Texans joining the league in 2002.

Since their inception, the Texans have had the exact same uniform which consists of a deep blue, battle red, and liberty white. Fortunately for Houston, they didn’t make the same mistake as some of the other teams who were re-designing uniforms at this time. Clubs like the Minnesota Vikings and Buffalo Bills come to mind as they made sure there were plenty of large stripes and shoulder accents which ended up making them look like Arena Football teams.

Both have since changed back to something more traditional and it was a wise move. So while the Texans deserve credit for not buying into that fad in the early 2000s, they really did end up with a generic look. And as we are approaching 20 years of existence, it could be time to shake things up.

As for a new look, why not look back to the Oilers days. Both J.J. Watt and DeAndre Hopkins have spoken out recently about wanting to be able to use the Oilers baby blue throwbacks. While that’s not an option, the team could create their own design using similar colors. I mean, it’s better than stealing from a CFL team like the Jets did.
