Round 5, Pick 140: Isaiah Buggs, DL, Alabama

After drafting two solid interior defensive linemen a year ago that both turned out to be significant contributors in Maurice Hurst and P.J. Hall, the Raiders find themselves in position to use a day-three pick to add depth to their defensive line. Here in the fifth round, they add Alabama defensive tackle Isaiah Buggs in order to allow Hurst, Hall, and company to catch their breath when needed.

Buggs could not get out of the shadow of potentially the best player in the entire draft class Quinnen Williams, and therefore does not have the production that would be expected from an Alabama defensive lineman, however here in the fifth round, he is well worth the look. In two seasons as a starter for the Crimson Tide, Buggs recorded a total of 17.5 tackles for loss and 11 sacks. In 2018, he managed 13.5 tackles for loss and 9.5 sacks.

However, Buggs did not test particularly well in Indianapolis at the combine, failing to rank above the 15th percentile in any test except the 40-yard dash where he still only managed to hit the 38th percentile of all defensive tackles in the class. Considering he played at a collegiate power house and still managed nearly double-digit sacks next to Williams, Buggs is worth a day-three flyer for the Raiders.
