New England Patriots: 7-Round 2019 NFL mock draft in early April
Pretty strong show for the University of Iowa in this mock draft, wouldn’t you say? Players from Iowa are not always the most talented, but they are well-coached, disciplined and dependable. Wide receiver Nick Easley is no exception.
Easley is a hard-working player who consistently gets the most out of his talent. He is a smooth route runner who uses surprising change of direction quickness and elusiveness to consistently create separation in his routes. He is a smart player who simply knows how to get open out of the slot and may have enough athletically to get it done at the next level as well.
The New England Patriots love to draft natural slot receivers who can create space on their routes. You can never expect too much out of a seventh round pick, but Julian Edelman was drafted in the seventh round once. You never know.
With their fourth and final pick of the seventh round and final pick of this mock draft, the New England Patriots select Penn State linebacker Koa Farmer.
This pick is all about traits. Farmer primarily played linebacker at Penn State, but played a bit of a hybrid safety role as well. He has good speed and overall athleticism, and it shows at times in coverage. He is a solid space linebacker who has a bit of raw upside at the next level.
To be honest, Farmer never would have been considered a draftable prospect before his recent Pro Day. Farmer shined at Penn State’s Pro Day, posting a 4.48-second 40-yard dash, 37-inch vertical leap, 4.28-second Pro Shuttle and 25 bench press reps. He is a gifted athlete who could at least grow into a special teams asset at the next level.
