After finding pass catchers for Brady with back-to-back picks, the New England Patriots go back to the defensive side of the ball with their third-round selection in this mock draft. With the 73rd overall pick, the Patriots bring in Iowa safety Amani Hooker.

Hooker is a true hybrid safety who can shine in many different defensive roles. He can compete in-the-box against the run, take on a variety of players in man-to-man coverage and make plays in zone on the back end.

Hooker is not blessed with elite speed or athleticism, but he makes up for it with great natural instincts and football IQ. He has fantastic route recognition skills in man-to-man coverage and locates the ball in the air extremely well. He has nice length for a safety at the next level, and he uses it well in coverage. He also a strong player and extremely reliable tackler in open space.

The New England Patriots love to find prospects who have versatility and Hooker certainly fits the bill. I could see the Pats bringing him in as a versatile defensive weapon, playing some safety, dime linebacker and possibly even slot cornerback. He could also come in and be an immediate contributor on special teams. A tough, talented and versatile player, Amani Hooker would be a fantastic fit in New England.
