Mid-round quarterback prospects rarely work out. To be honest, NFL teams would be lucky to find a capable backup in this range of the draft. That being said, the New England Patriots are loaded with picks throughout this draft, why not take a shot on some upside?

Tyree Jackson has all of the physical tools to be a starting NFL quarterback. He has the size, arm talent and mobility that scouts crave at the position. There is a lot to like about his game, but he has a long way to go before he puts it all together.

As things stand now, Jackson is a complete project. He struggles with accuracy, seemingly not knowing where the ball is going most of the time. His decision-making is lacking, typically relying on his big arm and athleticism to make plays as opposed to actually reading the defense and taking what they are giving him.

Jackson’s upside is legit. He is a true playmaker with the ball in his hands, showing the ability to improvise and make plays down field with the best of them. He is undoubtedly a bit rough around the edges, but there is a lot to like here. Getting Jackson in the Patriots’ system would be ideal for his development and would likely improve his decision-making ability. As long as he can at least get his accuracy to an adequate level, Jackson could end up being a starter down the line.
