The Green Bay Packers have two picks in the first round of the 2019 NFL Draft, and they’ll be looking to nail those picks. They have a few holes that they can address with the players up for grabs in this draft class.
There are some players such as Josh Allen or Nick Bosa that they would love to get, but won’t be able to. So who are the players that they’ll likely be targeting when they go on the clock at 12 and 30?
Will they go offense and defense to get one player on both sides of the ball? Will they just simply take the best player available at each pick no matter what side of the ball it is? There isn’t a ton of predictability with general manager Brian Gutekunst only having one draft under his belt, and he stunned everyone when he traded down in the draft with the team’s biggest need of safety on the board in the form of Derwin James, who eventually went to the Los Angeles Chargers.
They’ve been linked to a number of players at different positions throughout the pre-draft process, and, where there is smoke, there is usually fire. They have specific needs at positions like free safety, inside linebacker and others. The top of this draft, especially on the defensive side of the ball, is one of the best that we have seen in recent memory.
If Gutekunst does his job well, the first year of the Matt LaFleur era can be great.
