Detroit Lions: 7-Round 2019 mock draft, version 2.0
By Zac Snyder
With this mock nearing its end it was time to look at adding a linebacker and Tyrel Dodson from Texas A&M was one still available who is worth late-round consideration. At a little over 6-0 and 237 pounds he isn’t the biggest but he brings athleticism to a defense and is among the youngest prospects in this draft class.
There is uncertainty if Dodson could ever develop into a regular on defense but there is something to work with and he could buy some development time by contributing on special teams.
The Shurmur name should sound familiar because Kyle’s dad is currently the head coach of the New York Giants. He’s a big quarterback at 6-4 and 230 pounds but that is where the positives end in his athletic profile. Shurmur isn’t a guy who is going to extend plays with his legs even to the extent of someone like Matthew Stafford.
Add in the lack of a power arm and the appeal with Shurmur is limited to his bloodlines as the son of a prominent offensive coach and a desire to see what he can do when surrounded by NFL talent as opposed to what he played with at Vanderbilt.
As I said leading off, mock drafts are just for fun and meant for nothing more than exploring a scenario. There is no reason to get overly excited or upset about anything, but if you see some things you like or don’t like, feel free to leave a comment below or find me on Twitter.
