2. New England Patriots

Tom vs. Time is a nightmare for non-New England Patriots fans. Still, it’s a tale with an inevitable ending. Whether he retires at 45 years old, is forced to play for another franchise or is taken out by injury — Brady’s not playing forever. Since trading Jimmy Garoppolo and Jacoby Brissett, the Pats are thirsting for a young quarterback.

Like many other teams, they can wait until 2020 and hope the class turns out to be as great as we all assume it’ll be. Or they can nab a guy in this year’s draft by packaging up some picks and trading up.

For the right price, the Patriots can move up to select a quarterback of the future, a successor to Brady. If it’s looking to move ahead in the first round to snag Drew Lock that they desire, they have the artillery to make it happen. The Patriots are loaded with picks. They have a total of five picks in the first three rounds.

The pickings are slim at quarterback, however, and the Patriots are stuck between a rock and a hard place with Brady. Insurance is absolutely a necessity, despite Brady’s inability to yield to age. Still, he’s human and the Patriots can’t afford to wait until 2020 to get their guy.
