The Washington Redskins would need to trade up from No. 15 to get Dwayne Haskins in the 2019 NFL Draft. Evaluating the pros and cons of such a decision.

For my money, Dwayne Haskins is the best quarterback in the 2019 NFL Draft. The Ohio State quarterback had an absolutely ridiculous season in 2018 and firmly entrenched himself in the elite tier of this year’s quarterback class.

Haskins completed 70 percent of his passes in 2018, piling up 4,831 yards in the process. He also threw for 50 touchdown passes, while surrendering just eight interceptions. Haskins’ fantastic season was a major reason Ohio State went 13-1 on the year, and he looks ready for the NFL.

The Washington Redskins, meanwhile, are desperate for a quarterback. With Alex Smith out for 2019 (and possibly forever), a lot of problems arise at the position. They traded for Case Keenum this offseason, but he’s far from the answer in a long term capacity.

Drafting a quarterback to be the face of the franchise is the clear move at this point. However, with pick No. 15, there’s a strong chance Washington’s choices are severely narrowed down. Narrowed down so much, in fact, that there might not be someone worth taking that early on the board anymore.

This brings us to the notion of trading up. The Redskins have done it relatively recently with Robert Griffin III. In year one, it looked like the obvious right choice. However, after a few years. it looks like that wasn’t what the Redskins should’ve done.

What about this year? Is it smart to trade up for Dwayne Haskins? What are the pros and cons of pulling the trigger? Are there more checks in one of the categories? Does any particular pro or con weigh heavier than the others?

There are a lot of questions surrounding this, and in the end they won’t be answered for a while. We can try out best, though.
