Pro: Drop ‘Next Draft’ Stigma

This is a weird pro, but it’s in that category nonetheless. If you’re a part of Washington Redskins Twitter you’ll know what this is. You’ll hear it on the radio and TV as well, but it runs rampant on Twitter.

Every year, fans and analysts try to rationalize why the Redskins didn’t go after a quarterback. Every year, it’s also the same tired excuses. The most annoying of those excuses is the “next draft” stigma.

Whenever the draft is closing in and the expectations are that the Redskins aren’t going after a quarterback this comes into play. Basically, the fans and analysts will say, “oh, they’re waiting for next year. This draft class has bad quarterbacks, next year they’ll be great.”

There’s one glaring problem with this argument, though. They use it every year, but  that “next year” never comes. They’ll talk up the next draft class, but the next seasons comes and it’s rinse and repeat with the “next draft” talk.

In reality, this really isn’t a pro when it comes what could help the team. It would get rid of this tired excuse, though. Fans and analysts have to be in pain with how much they have to bend and twist to try and rationalize why a team that hasn’t won more than 10 games in a season since 1991 rarely goes after quarterbacks in the draft.

Hopefully Dwayne Haskins could be the answer at the position. When that happens, they won’t need to make excuses for why the Redskins aren’t going after a quarterback.
