Round 2 – Pick 1: David Montgomery, RB, Iowa State; Pick 2 (via OAK): Jace Sternberger, TE, Texas A&M

Arizona continues to add to the offensive arsenal. David Montgomery gives Rosen another weapon out of the backfield. Montgomery is a tough runner between the tackles.

At Iowa State, Montgomery ran for 2,925 yards with 26 touchdowns. He caught 71 passes for 582 yards. Against Kingsbury’s 2018 Texas Tech team, he ran for 125 yards on 33 carries and scored two touchdowns.

Montgomery stands 5-10, weighing 222 pounds. At the NFL Combine, he ran a 4.63-second 40-yard dash. He bench pressed 225 pounds 15 times. He’s a tough solid running back similar to the the former old school Cardinals running back Jim Otis.

The Redbirds could accentuate the draft class by selecting a tight end in the second round. Jace Sternberger is the Cardinals selection. Sternberger played collegiately at Texas A&M and Kansas.

After sitting two years at Kansas, he transferred to A&M. He had an immediate impact by catching  48 passes for 832 yards with 10 touchdowns. He is, yet another, big strong target for the Cardinals aerial attack.

Sternberger stands 6-4, weighing 251 pounds. He ran a 4.75-second 40-yard dash at the NFL Combine.  Perhaps, he is utilized as a slot receiver to create a mismatch for opposing secondaries.
