Round 3: Rock Ya-Sin, CB, Temple

Arizona makes their first defensive selection in the third round. They select Rock Ya-Sin of Temple. Patrick Peterson is the Cardinals shutdown corner, but Arizona has not been able to find anyone to play the other corner spot.

Ya-Sin has the potential to play opposite of Peterson. He has the physicality to smother opposing receivers. He stands 6-0, weighing 192 pounds. At the NFL Combine, he ran a 4.51-second 40-yard dash and bench pressed 225 pounds 18 times. He turned heads at the combine with his performance.

Zierlein of NFL.com gives his overview of Ya-Sin:

"Body-beautiful cornerback with good size and potential, … the ability to handle the duties of the position are all in place and waiting to be unlocked. He has the strength, toughness and feet to go from shadowing presence to a more disruptive one as a press-man corner. …"

Ya-Sin could work his way into the slot corner spot in the beginning. He played one season at Temple after transferring from Presbyterian. He needs a season to adapt to the speed of the professional game.

Last season, he had 47 total tackles and made two interceptions. He played in 12 games, but did not play in the bowl game against Duke.
