Round 5: Armon Watts, DT, Arkansas

The Redbirds select a defensive lineman in the fifth round. Armon Watts of Arkansas gets the nod. He will give Arizona a big run stopper in the middle of the defensive line. Watts measured 6-5, weighing 300 pounds at the Combine. He ran the 40-yard dash in 5.23 seconds. Last season, he was in on 49 total tackles with seven sacks.

Currently, Watts has a posted 5.64 grade on NFL.com following the Combine. According to the scale used by Zierlein and NFL.com, Watts has a chance to become a starter in the league. Zierlein writes the following:

"… He is an efficient, downhill rusher with the power and hand usage to pry open opportunities for pressures and sacks. … his ability to anchor against double teams and defeat single blocks is NFL-caliber. Watts’s size, strength and play traits should allow him consideration in both odd and even fronts as a future starter."

Watts could find playing time as the season progresses. He definitely needs to adapt to the speed of the NFL. He will play into the defensive front line rotation. Teams like to keep fresh players in the game to keep the aggressive nature of the defense consistent.
