Green Bay Packers: 5 Late-round sleepers in 2019 NFL Draft
By Joe Kipp
EDGE Ronheen Bingham, Arkansas State
Arkansas State’s Ronheen Bingham (6-2, 243 pounds) could be a sleeping giant for whichever team decides to draft him. The junior college transfer had one of the most productive seasons in the NCAA last season, racking up 62 pressures,18.5 tackles for loss and nine sacks. He managed a 94.1 pass rush grade from Pro Football Focus on 287 pass rush snaps.
Bingham’s upside is clearly there, but it’s his experience and level of competition that could have teams worried. Playing in the Sun Belt conference isn’t exactly the biggest challenge. That said, he was named the Sun Belt’s 2018 Defensive Player of the Year and was undoubtedly Arkansas State’s best player last season.
Additionally, Bingham had an impressive individual performance against Alabama despite not stuffing the stat sheet. As PFF put it, “Earlier this season against Alabama, Bingham clowned top-tier (offensive) tackle Jonah Williams on a spin move worse than any other defender has this season.”
Bingham is an intriguing prospect who could be an ideal fifth- or sixth-round selection. He has the chance to be an early rotational player with special teams upside. The Packers currently have three picks in that range, including No. 150, No. 185 and No. 194 overall.
