In an effort to solidify their defense, the Chiefs added safety Tyrann Mathieu in free agency this offseason. His addition will help the defense tremendously but they will need more if they want to take the next step. While cornerback is an option, adding another safety to pair with Mathieu could be an even better play.

Looking for that safety could lead them to Taylor Rapp of the Washington Huskies. One of the best in the nation in 2018, Rapp is a decent coverage safety but really excels as a “striker,” as highlighted by Lance Zierlein of NFL.com.

"“Versatile three-year starter who combines tenacity with football intelligence to play at a consistently high level. Rapp isn’t big, but he’s well-built and durability hasn’t been a concern despite his physical nature as a striker. He played all over the field this year and might be best-suited in a mix between down safety and two-high looks with the ability to cover tight ends. His coverage talent is average, but his run support effort and open-field tackling are clearly defined strengths that make him a relatively safe selection.” — Zierlein, NFL.com"

Rapp never recorded less than 51 tackles in his career and finished with 168 in three seasons for the Huskies. He added six sacks and seven interceptions in his career as well.
