Things are looking bleak for the Miami Dolphins heading into 2019, but they can start a rebuild with the right moves in the 2019 NFL Draft.

Because we aren’t in the Miami Dolphins front office listening to their conversations, we can’t say for sure that they are tanking the 2019 season. However, with the 2019 NFL Draft looming in less than two weeks, it surely looks like that might be the case. As things currently stand, new head coach Brian Flores may be in charge of the worst roster in the entire league.

Ryan Tannehill is out at quarterback, hitting the reset button on that position as they brought in veteran stopgap Ryan Fitzpatrick to replace him this season. With the 13th overall pick, though, it’s unlikely that Miami would get a sure-fire quarterback prospect without trading up, which wouldn’t suit a team with as many needs as the Dolphins have.

Looking up and down the roster, it’s hard to find a position where the Dolphins don’t have needs. Safety may be their best spot with Minkah Fitzpatrick, Reshad Jones and T.J. McDonald. Outside of that, you can argue that it’s too soon to give up on the likes of Laremy Tunsil at tackle or Mike Gesicki at tight end.

Virtually everywhere else on the roster, though, the Dolphins are in a bad spot right now. That, however, makes the 2019 NFL Draft fun. They could almost surely take the best player available whenever they’re on the clock and be addressing some sort of need that they have. Subsequently, they can start a rebuild — if that is indeed what they’re doing — by getting pieces that you can build with.

In this seven-round mock draft, that’s what we’ll try to do. The Dolphins, like Rome, won’t be built in a day. However, they can lay part of a foundation over three days in Nashville, and this mock draft would represent a good start for them in that regard.
