Round 5, Pick 151: Jalen Hurd, WR, Baylor

It’s still baffling that the Dolphins re-signed DeVante Parker this offseason given that he’s been nothing more than a bust to this point. However, it does make sense in that the wide receiver room is lacking. Thus, looking at Jalen Hurd in the fifth round is a high-upside pick that makes a ton of sense for Miami.

A converted running back that transferred from Tennessee to Baylor, Hurd has tremendous size and showed a ton of natural talent with the Bears in his only season as a wide receiver. While he needs technical refinement due to the recent position switch, the raw potential for him to be a real playmaker is there.

Round 7, Pick 233: Jordan Scarlett, RB, Florida

After taking Kalen Ballage in the fourth round last year, the Dolphins might feel confident that he and Kenyan Drake can carry the load at running back with the ageless Frank Gore now gone. I’m less certain that’s the case, hence why they start the seventh round by taking Jordan Scarlett. The former Gator isn’t a three-down back, but he’d fit perfectly into this committee in Miami as a bruiser, similar to the role Gore played for them.

Round 7, Pick 234: Jarrett Stidham, QB, Auburn

The Dolphins have their stop-gap quarterback in Ryan Fitzpatrick and, by all accounts, they’re putting themselves in a spot where they’ll be in a prime position to draft a top quarterback in the 2020 draft. However, they need some better bodies behind FitzMagic and Jarrett Stidham is that.

The Auburn product can look great when everything is going properly in front of him, but his ability to make plays when things break down is quite abysmal at this point. That can be fixed, but he’s a developmental flier in the seventh round at this point.
