Round 4, Pick 117: Jamel Dean, CB, Auburn

At the top of the depth chart, the Atlanta Falcons are solid with their cornerbacks. Desmond Trufant, when healthy, can be one of the NFL’s better corners. Meanwhile, there’s a lot to like about the prospects of 2018 second-round pick Isaiah Oliver as he enters his second year in the league. Having said that, they have little depth behind them with Robert Alford and Brian Poole now no longer with the team.

Because of that, the Falcons need to address corner and Jamel Dean does that with a high-upside fourth-round selection. Dean has top-50 player traits with size, speed and physicality in his game. However, it’s the lack of refinement in his game that’s lacking. He needs a great deal of coaching to get those areas of his game ready for the pro game, but he has the tools to get there.

Round 4, Pick 137: Oli Udoh, OT, Elon

Once again, the Falcons need some help in regards to their offensive line moving forward. That doesn’t just apply to their guards, as we mentioned when discussing the Samia pick, though. Their tackles right now are Jake Matthews and Ty Sambrailo, which isn’t the worst duo in the league, but could definitely stand to be upgraded down the line. Oli Udoh is the perfect player to fit that mold.

The Elon product checks every physical box from what you would want in an offensive tackle, from size to length to mobility. However, playing at a small school, he’s not technically refined and, frankly, isn’t all that close. He’s going to need a heavy, heavy dose of NFL coaching in regards to his football IQ and technique. If those come around, though, getting him in the fourth round will be a massive steal for Atlanta.
