Trade: Jaguars send Leonard Fournette to Tampa Bay Buccaneers for 2019 fifth round pick and 2020 second-round pick

Round 5: Gardner Minshew, QB, Washington State

The Jaguars make a deal with Tampa Bay to move up in the fifth round. Details of this deal are as follows: Leonard Fournette has been sent to the Buccaneers in exchange for this fifth round selection and a second round pick in 2020. With the pick, Jacksonville selects Gardner Minshew of Washington State.

Minshew played quarterback under Mike Leach for the 2018 season. He played two seasons at East Carolina previously, but he had better numbers under Leach.

Minshew completed 468-of-662 passes for 4,779 yards with 38 touchdowns and nine interceptions for Wazzu. He benefitted by playing in the air raid offense. At East Carolina, he completed 293-of-506 passes for 3,487 yards with 24 touchdowns and 11 interceptions.

In comparison, Minshew had a better completion percentage at Washington State. His completion rate of 70.7 percent under Leach is vastly better than his 57.9 at East Carolina. Also, he seems to be a fit in the new Jaguars offensive scheme.

Minshew stands 6-1, weighing 225 pounds. His physique is similar to Baker Mayfield of the Cleveland Browns. Moreover, both played the same type of offense in college.

By the way, moving Fournette may prove to be good for him. He gets a fresh start in Tampa and is their top running back. His departure will leave Jacksonville with five running backs, if you include the fullback.
