It was an up and down debut campaign for head coach Matt Patricia in the Motor City, but can the Detroit Lions enjoy a bounce back season in 2019?

There’s been no playoff win since 1991, no division title since 1993 (during the days of the NFC Central) and no NFL championship since 1957. Of the 16 current franchises in the NFC, the Detroit Lions are the lone team they haven’t made an appearance in the Super Bowl.

In 2018, the Lions made yet another head coaching change. After four seasons and despite a pair of playoff appearances in the Motor City, Jim Caldwell was let go by the organization. Enter former New England Patriots defensive coordinator Matt Patricia, who had a connection with current Lions’ general manager Bob Quinn.

But the 2018 season did not go well early as the club fell to the New York Jets and San Francisco 49ers in the first two weeks. But there were strides made as the season wore on. However, when it was all said and done, the Men from Motown managed a 6-10 record and finished dead last in the NFC North.

This offseason, Quinn and the franchise have been one of the active franchises during free agency. And the club certainly brought in their share of players. But, outside of Trey Flowers, the Lions also did not spent a lot of money on big names this offseason. And that certainly has a familiar ring to it if you know how the Patriots (whom both Quinn and Patricia used to work for) go about their business.

There’s still some talent on the open market to be had. And if the team is so inclined, perhaps these three players could help Detroit escape the NFC North basement this year.
