Round 7, Pick 250: Terry Beckner Jr., IDL, Missouri

At this point in the draft teams are making dart throws. May as well try to hit on a prospect with high upside then, right? Missouri’s Terry Beckner offers all of that. He was once considered a top-10 recruit nationally, but two separate significant knee injuries (ACL tear in both knees) have plummuted his career thus far.

Beckner (6-4, 296 pounds) showed flashes in 2018 of what could’ve been, and he was named second-team All-SEC for his position. He started all 13 games, racking up 34 tackles, 11 tackles for loss, 3.5 sacks and a forced fumble. He did not have a good Combine performance, however, running 5.18 seconds in the 40-yard dash, jumping 24.5 inches in the vertical, 98 inches in the broad jump and posting a 7.97-second 3-cone drill.

"“Beckner has flashes where his ability and football instincts can take over in spurts, but he struggles to sustain it. … Swims guards/centers for quick penetration. … If he can improve his hands, that should help, but his medicals could be a concern moving forward.” – NFL.com’s Lance Zierlein"

Beckner offers the Vikings tremendous upside as a low-risk, high-reward option late in the draft. With Linval Joseph now on the wrong side of 30, and Sheldon Richardson departing for the Browns this offseason, Minnesota needs all the help it can get on the defensive line.
