2019 NFL Mock Draft: Surprise trade into top three shakes up first round
The Detroit Lions traded down six spots in the first round of this 2019 NFL mock draft, picking up a valuable second round selection that they can use to help rebuild their roster. The Lions have some nice talent on both sides of the ball, but have yet to be able to put it all together.
Signing Trey Flowers beefs up the Lions’ defensive line a bit, but they could certainly still use some depth up front. After trading down, Detroit adds another defensive lineman to add to the mix by selection Rashan Gary out of Michigan.
Gary is a quick and explosive athlete shows impressive natural speed on the outside. His combination of raw power and athleticism gives him massive upside at the next level, both as a pass rusher and a run defender.
He sets the edge well and can explode through the line of scrimmage with regularity. Gary is probably best suited as a defensive end on early downs, but has the size and power to kick inside on passing downs. He has massive upside as an interior pass rusher at the next level and the versatility to play all across the defensive line.
Gary is undoubtedly a raw talent, but his skill set and upside is awfully impressive. Finding guy like this after trading down could end up being a massive win for the Detroit Lions.
