The Arizona Cardinals hold the first overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft and undoubtedly have a tough decision to make. After drafting quarterback Josh Rosen in the top 10 last year, you would think that the quarterback position would be completely off their radar. However, after Rosen’s ugly rookie season, that simply may not be the case.

Early in the draft process, taking a stud defensive lineman like Nick Bosa or Quinnen Williams seemed to make the most sense. However, once they hired Kliff Kingsbury as head coach, everything changed.

More from NFL Draft

Kingsbury will bring his wide-open Air Raid offensive attack to Arizona. While Rosen is a talented passer who undoubtedly has the talent become a legitimate franchise quarterback in the NFL, his lack of mobility makes him a poor fit for Kingsbury’s offense. If they really want to go all in and give Kingsbury a chance for success, they have to get him a proper quarterback for his offense. Kyler Murray is that guy.

It was only for one season, but Murray was absolutely dominant at Oklahoma last year. He showed fantastic playmaking ability with the ball in his hands, consistently making plays downfield with his strong arm and impressive touch on his passes. Murray is also commonly the fastest player on the field, making plays with his legs both by actually running for yards and also creating extra time to throw.

He is still a bit of a raw player who has to improve his decision-making a bit in order to reach his full potential, but his raw skill-set gives him massive upside at the next level. Moving on from Rosen so soon is not ideal, but Murray is a special player who is an absolute perfect fit for Kingsbury’s offense. This is not necessarily the move that I would make, but I do understand it and respect the decision to swing for the fences.
