Round 4, Pick 136: Will Harris, S, Boston College

One of the 30 visits Dallas used was on Boston College safety Will Harris, who they take with their compensatory fourth-round pick here. The Cowboys did add George Iloka, but he also comes in on a one-year deal, so they add someone who can provide depth this season but has the talent to develop into a starter down the road.

One thing that the Cowboys coaches love in a player is the ability to fill multiple roles on the team and that’s what attracts them to a guy like Harris. He’s able to play either safety position — which is huge in Big D — and can also help on special teams.

"“Possesses adequate toughness and athletic ability to handle backup duties as interchangeable safety, but his greatest impact on a team could come as a cover talent on special teams. Harris’ ability to match with pass-catching tight ends will work in his favor, but he’s more of a shadow and tackle option than someone who can make plays and deter quarterbacks.” — Lance Zierlein, NFL.com"

Harris recorded 225 tackles in his four seasons with Boston College and added five interceptions. He doesn’t look like someone who will develop into a perennial Pro Bowl player, but he’s a safe pick at this point and should be a productive player for many years.
