NFL Draft: Re-drafting the star-studded 2014 NFL Draft
By Cory Kinnan
Original Pick: Anthony Barr, LB, UCLA Bruins
Again, there is nothing wrong with the original selection of Anthony Barr out of UCLA made by the Minnesota Vikings in 2014. However in this re-draft, the guy that actually went No. 1 overall in Jadaveon Clowney is still on the board. The Vikings stop Clowney’s slide and make him the No. 9 overall pick after being passed up by the Houston Texans and eight other teams.
While Anthony Barr is a great player who just signed a long-term, massive deal to remain in Minnesota, the Vikings have used him out-of-position as an edge rusher, while he is better served as an off-ball backer.
Here, they get the chance to land an actual pure pass rusher in the form of Clowney. Of course, the Vikings have to jump on the opportunity to put him in the purple and gold in this re-draft.
When it comes to discussing teams such as the Vikings that have experienced great success and got a great player to begin with in Barr, swapping him for Clowney more than likely would not have pushed the needle for the team in 2017, falling just one game short of a Super Bowl berth.
But for the fun of it, Clowney falls out of favor with Houston, all the way north to Minnesota and lands with the Vikings.
